6th Arrondissement is home to the Palais and Jardin du Luxembourg, and the Eglise of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The Palais du Luxembourg was built for Marie de Medici in the early 17th century, and is currently home to the French Senate. The attached Luxembourg Garden is open to the public all year-round. The Eglise Saint-Germain-des-Prés is the oldest church in Paris and was founded in 542 by King Childebert, although the current building dates from the 11th century.
