8th Arrondissement is located on the River Seine right bank and has the Opera at the centre. The 8th is a busy business district and is home to a number of top French company head offices. It is also the location of many historical attractions, among them the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de la Concorde, as well as the Élysée Palace, the official residence of the President of France. The Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806, to commemorate his victories as Emperor of France. The monument was not complete until 1836 – after Napoleon’s death. The Arc de Triomphe is at the end of the Champs-Élysées - one of the most prestigious shopping boulevards of Paris.
