A winter average high of 14 °C (57 °F) and in the summer 32 °C (90 °F), with very sunny spells. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild and mostly sunny. Bodrum has an interesting past and was the site of the famous Mausoleum of Halikarnassus - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World until it was destroyed by earthquakes. However, there are significant older attractions still largely intact including: Bodrum Castle the Castle of St Peter; The Bodrum Amphitheatre; Windmills in Bodrum; and Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Present day Bodrum is also an international center of tourism and yachting and the sheltered anchorage contains yachts and locally-built gulets (two-masted wooden sailing vessel) used by tourist charters. If beaches are your thing then the best bet is to catch a dolmus (a shared taxi) and head for Gumbet. Along with sun-bathing you can: hire a private boat; go snorkeling; and relax in one of the nearby swimming pools. It is also easy to nip across for a day trip to the Greek islands of Kos or Rhodes.

Bodrum is the site of the ancient city of Halikarnassus, the location of the famous Mausoleum of Halikarnassus (built after 353 BCE) - one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Unfortunately, the ancient monument was destroyed by earthquakes in the Middle Ages - some of the remnants can be seen in London's British Museum.
