Best time to go – spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) avoiding the hottest summer temperatures. Aqaba is located in the south of Jordan on a small stretch of the Red Sea. The city is strategically important as it is the only port. The city has been an inhabited settlement since 4000 BC profiting from its strategic location at the confluence of trading routes between Asia, Africa, and Europe. Although it has an industrial and shipping role Aqaba is also a popular diving and beach resort. Recently the city has experienced rapid growth, with over $20 billion of foreign investment targeted at a range of developments including: Saraya Aqaba (a resort with a man made lagoon, luxury hotels, and villas); Marsa Zayed (the largest real estate project in Jordan's history); and Aqaba Port relocation (includes expansion to the container terminal). Visitors will also notice the Aqaba flagpole which at 137 meters (449 ft) high, is the second tallest free standing flagpole in the world.

Aqaba is a coastal town in the far south of Jordan. It is the capital of Aqaba Governorate. Aqaba is strategically important to Jordan as it is the country's only seaport. The town borders Eilat, Israel, and there is a border post where it is possible to cross between the two countries.
Aqaba is the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's only port city, located on the Gulf of Aqaba at the southernmost extremity of the kingdom. Ferries run regularly from Aqaba across to Nuweiba on Egypt's Sinai peninsula, bypassing Israel and the sometimes complicated border arrangements.
