Voltage guide 120V. Dialing code +1 242. The Bahamas is a collection of islands located in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Cuba and southeast of the US state of Florida. The number if islands is over 2,000 if the cays (small island formed on top of coral reefs) are included. The principal islands are - Grand Bahama (home to an underwater limestone cave system and a centre of eco-tourism), New Providence Island (home to the capital and largest city Nassau), and Paradise Island (home of the famous Atlantis casino resort). The Bahamas has one of the strongest economies in the Caribbean region and this strength is based on the twin pillars of tourism and offshore finance. Many tourists come for the water activities and the perfect conditions for - kiteboarding, kayaking, deep-sea fishing, bonefishing, waverunners, island boat tours, wild dolphin excursions and even shark encounters. The islands have also become an established stop for most of the leading cruise operators and The capital, Nassau, on New Providence Island is one of the world's busiest cruise ship ports. The Bahamas are know for a rich culture, notably expressed with four unique forms of music - Calypso, Soca, Junkanoo and Rake and Scrape. Local cuisine is distinctly seafood orientated and indeed the national dish is conch (pronounced "conk" with a hard K), a type of mollusk, served deep-fried ("cracked") or raw with a twist of lemon.
