Beijing is the capital and second largest city of China and is home to most of the HQs of Chines biggest state-owned companies. It is also a major transportation hub for national highway, expressway, railway, and high-speed rail networks. Beijing Capital International Airport is the second busiest in the world for numbers of passengers. Beijing can trace its history back over 3,000 years and is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China the others being Nanjing, Luoyang, and Chang'an (Xi'an). As befits a capital city Beijing has constructed - opulent palaces, temples, gardens, tombs, universities, walls and gates, and accumulated art treasures making it a centre of Chinese culture. The city is located at the northern tip of the roughly triangular North China Plain, in the north east of the country. The city consists of 14 districts and 2 counties the 4 central districts contains most of the historical treasures attractive to visitors and are summarised as follows: Xicheng District (; Xchngq) - includes Beihai Park, the Houhai area, Beijing Zoo and National Concert Hall; Dongcheng District (; Dngchngq) -includes the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Beijing Central Station; Xuanwu District (; Xunwq) includes Grand View Garden, Niu Street Mosque, and Museum of Ancient Architecture; Chongwen District (; Chngwnq) - includes the Temple of Heaven, Ming Dynasty City Wall Site Park, and Beijing Museum of Natural History. Beijing has numerous sites for visitors but must see places include - Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, National Stadium or Bird's Nest, Museum of Chinese History, Museum of the Chinese Revolution, and The Grand Canal (longest canal in the world at 1,400 miles long). Further afield is the Great Wall of China accessible by bus or train from Beijing.
