Bled is located in the north west of Slovenia and it adjoins the famous Lake Bled, a major tourist attraction. Above the lake is the iconic Bled castle which looks like it has been plucked from the fictional kingdom, Ruritania, as featured in the novel The Prisoner of Zenda. In the middle of Lake Bled is a small island which is home to a small church. There are frequent trips to the island on traditional boats called Pletnas. During the 19th century Bled became popular as a health resort and many grand hotels grew up on it’s banks. A must for all visitors is a visit to Bled castle which dates back top 1004. The castle offers a terrific views of Lake Bled and the wider area of the Upper Carniola region and the Julian Alps. The Julian Alps are topped by Mount Triglav at 2,864 m (9,396 ft) making it the highest point in Slovenia. With all this spectacular lakeland and mountain scenery it is no surprise that Bled is a mecca for sporty visitors including: walkers; skiers; anglers; and rowers. Bled hosted the World Rowing Championships in 1966, 1979 and in 1989 and is due to host them again in 2011.

The dining area also has wonderful views overlooking the lake although an a la carte restaurant is available for those who like to dine in shirt and tie. Guests will enjoy rowing across the lake in one of the hotel's rowing boats. For more adventurous rowers a trip to Lake Bled island is well worth doing.
Triglav National Park (Slovenian: Triglavski narodni park) is a national park located in Slovenia. It was named after Mt. Triglav, which is also a national symbol of Slovenia. Mt. Triglav is situated almost in the middle of the national park. From it the valleys spread out radially, supplying water to two large river systems.
Bled is a municipality (population 10,899) in northwestern Slovenia in the region of Upper Carniola (Slovenian: Gorenjska). Bled is famous for the glacial Lake Bled, which makes it a major tourist attraction. Perched on a rock overlooking the lake is the iconic Bled Castle.
Bled's scenery is almost impossibly romantic, with a little white church on an island in the center of an emerald green mountain lake, Bled Castle perched high above and the peaks of the Julian Alps all around. The town is a popular access point for Triglav National Park and offers numerous possibilities for an active holiday, including hiking, mountain biking, rafting and skiing in winter or a relaxing spell in a modern wellness centre.
