Best time to go – during the dry season, from July to September. Brasilia is the capital of Brazil and is a planned city being the brainchild of President Juscelino Kubitschek. It is located in the Central-West region of the country, along a plateau known as the Planalto Central. The city structure is designed in the shape of a giant bird or airplane, with various separated zones assigned for specific functions such as housing, commerce, hospitals and banking. Running down the centre of the bird structure is the thoroughfare called the Eixo Monumental ("Monumental Axis"). The city is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and attracts modern architecture lovers from around the world. Most of the architectural sites are in the eastern part of the Monumental Axis, which divides the city into north and south sectors.
