Calgary. Pop. 956,078. The largest city in the Canadian Province of Alberta and the 3rd largest city in Canada. The city is located near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and is over 1000 meters above sea level. Two main rivers, Bow River and Elbow Rivers run through the city and converge in the downtown area of Calgary. Calgary’s best known event is The Calgary Stampede, which features a large parade and world-class rodeo and attracts over a million people each year. In 1988 the Winter Olympics were hosted in Calgary and the Canada Olympic Park was established. This is a multi-purpose athletic facility designed for skiing, snowboarding, bobsleigh and luge during the winter and mountain biking during the summer. Other attractions, include the Glenbow Museum, Calgary Tower and Eau Claire Market which are all year-round destinations.
