Caracas is the capital and largest city in Venezuela and is located in the North of the country, near the Venezuelan coastal range (Cordillera de la Costa). Along with other settlements in the northern regions of South America Caracas was colonised and developed by the Spanish and the subsequent cultivation of cocoa led to the growth of Caracas.
