Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport (IATA: CMB, ICAO: VCBI) is located 35 km (22 miles) north of Colombo in the town of Katunayake. The airport is named after a former Prime Minister. The airport started off as an RAF (Royal Air Force) base and has developed into the hub of SriLankan Airlines. There are ambitious plans for the future which include construction of a new runway intended for the Airbus A380, a further eight passenger gates, a domestic terminal, a 5-storey car-park, and a five star hotel. Colombo airport has few real airport hotels but there are hotels within twenty minutes drive away including: The Beach Hotel Negombo, Sunflower Hotel, Blue Oceanic Beach Hotel, and Airport Garden Hotel.
