Croatia is a southern european country with a varied landscape including: lakes and rolling hills in the north; wooded mountains; and a rocky Adriatic coastline. The country is divided into the following regions: Dalmatia - a strip of mainland and islands between the Mediterranean and Bosnia and Herzegovina; Istria - a peninsula in the northwest, bordering Slovenia; Kvarner - seashore and highlands north of Dalmatia; Slavonia - northeastern area of forests and fields, bordering Hungary, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Central Croatia - north central highlands, location of Zagreb. Croatia was part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, from 1918-1929, and Kingdom of Yugoslavia, from 1929-1941. The country declared independence in 1991, which resulted in a war fought by the Croatian government against the Serb-led Yugoslav People's Army, Serbian paramilitary forces and rebel Serbs. The war ended with in 1995 after the signing of the Dayton Agreement. Croatia has a stable economy with a major service-based sector followed by industrial, and agricultural sectors. The service based sector is enhanced in the summer with a strong tourism input. Attractions for vistors include: Historical Complex of Split with the Palace of Diocletian; Old City of Dubrovnik; Plitvice National Park; Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Porec; Historic City of Trogir; and The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik.
