The Czech Republic is a central European country and a member of the EU (European Union). Formerly part of Czechoslovakia until 1993, the Czech Republic then became a separate country when it split from Slovakia. The Czech Republic has an interesting variety of terrain with Bohemia in the west surrounded by low mountains, to Moravia in the east which is also hilly. The Czech Republic is renowned for it’s strong economy and articulate workforce. The principal industries are heavy and general machine-building, iron and steel production, metalworking, chemical production, electronics, transportation equipment, textiles, glass, brewing, china, ceramics, and pharmaceuticals. The main agricultural products are sugarbeets, fodder roots, potatoes, wheat, and hops. This powerful industrial history dates to the 19th century, when Bohemia and Moravia were the economic heartland of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Tourism has is also a major part of the Czech Republic economy with Prague as the proverbial ‘Jewel in the Crown’ with other gems like the spas towns of Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázn, and the Šumava and the Krkonoše Mountains. The Czech Republic is also famous for beer with Pilsner Urquell, Budweiser Budvar, and Staropramen well know in western European pubs and shops. Other major brands which are popular domestically include Gambrinus (produced at the same brewery as Pilsner Urquell), Kozel, Bernard (a small traditional brewery, with very high quality beer), Radegast, and Starobrno (made in Brno, the capital of Moravia).

Golden Well (U Zlate Studne) Prague Czech Republic

Charming traditional retreat in 16th-century Emperor's residence, set beneath the walls of Prague Castle. Wander up the cobbled, traffic-free streets to The Golden Well (U Zlate Studne), clinging to the wall in the shadow of Prague Castle, and you will uncover one of the city's best kept secrets. This modest collection of little inter-locking houses was once home to Emperor Rudolf II, and later the astronomer Tycho de Brahe. Sensitive renovation - has created a cosy yet refined hotel.
