Dallas Love Field Airport (IATA: DAL, ICAO: KDAL, FAA LID: DAL) is situated 10 km 6 miles, north west of the CBD central business district of Dallas. Love Field was the principal city airport up to 1974, when DFW Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport was opened. The airport takes its name from First Lieutenant Moss Lee Love, who died in a plane crash in San Diego, California. After the opening of DFW air traffic at Davis Love understandably fell as most international flights moved to the main airport. Davis Love has consolidated as a domestic airport and is now a focus city for Southwest Airlines, Continental Express and Delta Connection. Ground transport is currently provided by the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) bus operation. This will be enhanced with the opening of the Green Line light rail, which will link to a people mover system linking the terminal to the new rail station. As the airport is close to Dallas many travellers will elect to choose a city center hotel. However, the Embassy Suites Hotel Love Field Airport, and Hawthorn Suites Dallas Love Field are closer to the airport.
