Dubai 5 Five Star Hotels. Dubai, one of the 7 Emirates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has one of the largest concentrations of luxury hotels in any city in the world. It is a relatively new tourist destination and is ideally situated between Europe and Asia. Indeed the Dubai International Airport is frequently used as a stop for flights from Europe to the Fare East and Australia. The city is about 5 – 6 hours flying time from mainland Europe and makes an excellent short break for - shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and live concerts. The range of 5 star hotels needs to be seen to be believed – The Burj al Arab hotel is arguably a new wonder of the world and is visible from all parts of the city. The Sheraton next to the Dubai Creek is one of the original 5 star hotels and has superb views of the Dubai Creek with it’s bustling waterfront. The Jumeriah Beach has a unique design and is a stone’s throw from the waters of the Persian Gulf. The Royal Mirage has a distinctive Middle Eastern design for visitors looking for a more authentic type of hotel. A selection of places to see include - Bastakiya District. (traditional style Arabic building), Burj al-Arab hotel (stunning 5 star hotel with unique design), Dubai Museum (social history of Dubai), Dubai Zoo (an outdoor zoo near to the beach), Gold Souq (22ct gold marketplace), Ibn Battuta Mall (constructed in traditional architecture of 6 countries), Jumeirah Mosque (open to visitors), Mall of the Emirates (home of, currently, the world's largest indoor ski slope), and Shindagha District (home to the open museums of the Heritage Village). Due to very heavy demand for hotel rooms in Dubai it is necessary that you book your hotel at least 2 weeks in advance to get a decent rate, especially from September to May. One thing to be aware of, as Dubai is a Muslim country - Alcohol is only available at licensed premises, usually attached to hotels (most nightclubs and bars are in or attached to hotels, though they may have separate entrances). However, the city is very liberal and relatively relaxed about alcohol unlike other, more orthodox, areas of the Middle East.
