Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson Airport (IATA: ATL, ICAO: KATL, FAA LID: ATL) is situated seven miles (11 km) south of the central business district CBD of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. It has the distinction of being the world’s busiest airport by passenger traffic and number of landings and take-offs. Since 1999, the airport has served over 88 million passengers per year and nearly a million flights. In 2003 the airport was renamed in honour of former mayor Maynard Jackson, the first African-American mayor of Atlanta. The airport is a major hub for travel throughout the Southeastern United States and indeed most of the flights are domestic. The airport has also established a strong international service to North America, South America, Central America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. To handle all of this passenger traffic the airport has 151 domestic and 28 international gates. The airport has 6 concourses designed for passenger boarding, Concourse E is the international terminal, and was opened in 1994 in time for the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympic Games. Ground transport from Hartsfield–Jackson is provided by the airport train station, on the city's rapid transit system, MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority). The above-ground station is inside the main building, between the north and south terminals on the west side. There is also the Hartsfield–Jackson Rental Car Center which is connected to the main airport by the innovative automated people mover, nicknamed the ATL Skytrain. For air travelers with an early departure time or who are on looking for business meeting accommodation near the airport there are hotels nearby including: Crowne Plaza Atlanta Airport Hotel, Marriott Atlanta Airport Hotel, Westin Atlanta Airport Hotel, and Courtyard By Marriott Atlanta Airport North Hotel.
