The Himalayas are a range of mountains in Asia that includes over 100 mountains exceeding 7,200 metres (23,622 ft), including Mount Everest and K2. The Himalayas also extend to include the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and other, smaller ranges such as the Pamir Knot. This massive system covers six countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan. Also, this range is home to the sources of some of the world's rivers including: Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra; and Yangtze. The Himalayas attract a great number of climbers, and trekkers many of whom are drawn to the largest mountain – Mount Everest 29,002 ft (8,840 m). The first successful ascent of Mount Everest was completed on 29th May 1953, by the New Zealander Edmund Hillary, and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal. By the end of the 2008 climbing season, there had been 4,102 ascents to the summit of Mount Everest by about 2,700 individuals. Climbers and Trekkers are a significant source of tourist revenue for Nepal and a network of hotels, guest houses, and camps have been developed for foreign visitors.

Himalayas - wikipedia

The Himalaya Range or Himalayas for short is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. By extension, it is also the name of a massive mountain system that includes the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and other, lesser, ranges that extend out from the Pamir Knot.

Himalayas - wikitravel

The Himalaya are a range of mountains in Asia, most correctly defined as stretching from the Indus river in Pakistan, through India, Nepal, Bhutan, ending at the Bramaputra River in India. This is often extended to include the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and other minor ranges extending from the Pamir Knot, as these mountains are continuous with the Himalaya proper. This region includes the 14 highest mountains in the world, and over 100 peaks over 7200m.
