Iwate Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region on Honshû island, Japan. The capital is Morioka. The prefecture has mountains in the west, north and east, with the valley of the Kitakami River running from north to south through the center of the province and including the capital. The coast is very rugged, with little in between the mountains and the sea. Iwate's industry is concentrated around Morioka and specializes in semconductor and communication manufacturing.

Japanese cruiser Iwate - wikipedia

The IJN Iwate was an Izumo class armored cruiser of the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was named after Iwate prefecture in northern Japan, and it was a sister ship of the IJN Izumo. The Iwate was sunk in an American air attack on Kure 26 July 1945, and later raised and scrapped in 1947.
