The State of Kansas is a Midwestern state in the central region of the United States of America, an area often referred to as the American "Heartland". It is named after the Kansas River also known as the Kaw River, which flows through it. Today, Kansas is one of the most productive agricultural states, producing many crops, and leading the nation in wheat and sunflower production.
There's something about Kansas that's hard to put your finger on. One of the nation's major metropolitan papers described Kansas as a "fabled place," a reservoir of authentic American experience. Kansas has always been a place with enough space and enough promise for people to dream and make big things happen.
INK launched the official state Web site for Kansas in January 1995. Kansas had one of the first state sites in the U.S. In 1999 hunting and fishing licenses were made available online. INK launched a new state portal with the name accessKansas in 2000. In 2005, the portal was redesigned and renamed Kansas.gov
