Khao Yai National Park. Established in 1962 Khao Yai is Thailand’s oldest National Park, and is approximately 200mk northeast of Bangkok. Due to its large variety of both flora and fauna it has become hertitage site as approved by ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). In 2005 Khao Yai also became a World Heritage Site authorised by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Khao Yai Thailand’s third largest Nation Park, covering an area of 2,165.55 sq.km. and its highest peak, Khao Rom, reaches an elevation of 1,351 m. above sea level. The park is part of the Dongrak Range, which forms a mountainous wall fencing the northeast plateau from the central plain of Thailand. The park extends across four provinces: Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Ratchasima and Prachinburi. Khao Yai has many visitor attractions, including waterfalls, a rich diversity of plants [over. 2,000 species], plentiful wildlife and an interesting cultural history. The park has become increasingly popular with developers and adjacent lands have seen the growth of into luxury hotels and golf courses for week-ending visitors from Bangkok. It is hoped that such development will not impact on future conservation measures. The best time to go is Nov – Feb when there is clear, sunny and cool weather, are ideal for hiking. The days average around 22° C, while the nights can drop to 10° C with splendid sunsets thrown in for good measure.

Khao Yai National Park - wikipedia

It lies largely in Nakhon Ratchasima Province (Khorat), but also includes parts of Saraburi, Prachinburi and Nakhon Nayok provinces. It was the country's first national park, established on September 18, 1962. A major role in its establishment was done by Boonsong Lekakul, one of the 20th century's most famous conservationists in Thailand.
