Kotor is situated on Boka Kotorska Bay, the deepest natural fjord in the Mediterranean Sea, with spectacular surrounding mountain scenery. Kotor has one of the best preserved, medieval old towns in the Adriatic and is an official UNESCO world heritage site. Associated with the old town is the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon built in 1166), and the ancient town walls which stretch for 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) above the city. For the party goer the old town is filled with bars, restaurants, cafes, and many nightclubs. Kotor is connected to the Adriatic Motorway via the Vrmac Tunnel. However, there is a scenic slower route into Kotor via Cetinje, which gives spectacular views of Kotor Bay. Visitors are recommended take a boat trip to two islands, Sveti Djordje and Gospa od Skrpijela. For beach goers unfortunately there are no sandy beaches nearby and tourists are advised to drive to the Jaz or Trsteno beaches on the Budva riviera, some 20 km from Kotor.
