Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and the largest city. It is situated on the outfall of the river Ljubljanica into the Sava, in central Slovenia, between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The earliest settlement in Ljubljana developed during the Bronze Age. This was followed by the Romans, and in later years the city came under the rule of the Habsburg House and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1918 Ljubljana became the unofficial capital of Slovenia in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and remained as the capital after Slovenia became independent in 1991. The city has grown into a cultural, scientific, economic, political and administrative centre, and attracts a wide range of business and leisure visitors. Ljubljana also has some excellent attractions for visitors including: Zmajski Most (Dragon Bridge); Triple Bridge; Ljubljana Castle; Krakovo; and Republic Square. Culture tourists will also be impressed with the: Architecture Museum of Ljubljana; National Museum; National Museum of Contemporary History; and the Tivoli Gallery - International centre of Graphic Art.

Ljubljana-Jože Puènik Airport (IATA: LJU, ICAO: LJLJ) is the international airport of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The airport is located near the village of the Brnik, approximately 26 km (16.2 mi) north of Ljubljana and 11 km (6.8 mi) south of Kranj at the road between Kranj and Mengeš. It has a 3,300 metre (10,827 ft) paved runway. The airport was opened on December 24, 1963.
