Loei Province - wikipedia

Loei is one of the most sparsely populated provinces (changwat) of Thailand, located in the North-East of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from east clockwise) Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Nongbua Lamphu, Khon Kaen, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok. In the north it borders Xaignabouli and Vientiane Province of Laos. The province is covered with low mountains, and the capital Loei is located in a fertile basin. The river Loei which flows through the province is a tributary of the Mekong river. This river forms the northern boundary of the province with neighboring Laos.

Phu Kradueng National Park - Loei Province

Every year tens of thousands of people come to make the climb up this famous mountain. Loei Province - North East Thailand

Although geographically located in the Northeast, Loei has many things in common with the Northern region with numerous high hills and mountains, and wintry and foggy climate. It is the only province in Thailand which has the dubious distinction of the mercury plummeting to zero Celsius. Loei is 520 kilometers from Bangkok.
