London City Airport (IATA: LCY, ICAO: EGLC) is located on a former Docklands site (11 km; 6.9 miles) east of the City of London. The airport is a Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) airport and was designed to serve the financial district of London including Canary Wharf. Most of the destinations are to UK and European cities with a new Business Class only route to New York JFK introduced in september 2009. Due to the short runway length the aircraft on this transatlantic route, the Airbus A318, has to refuel at Shannon, Ireland, as a full fuel load is to heavy for take off at London City. The principal transfer mode is the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) which links the airport terminal with Canary Wharf.
