The origins of commercial air traffic date back to the founding of Luxembourg Airlines on 4 September 1948, at the initiative and its assistance of the government. The city of Luxembourg, commonly known as Luxembourg City, is a commune with city status, and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
