Mayfair and Marylebone is a large area in central London with the south section encompassing the whole of Mayfair and Piccadilly and the north section the whole area from Oxford Street through Marylebone to Regent's Park and the border with St John's Wood. Mayfair takes its name from the fortnight-long May Fair that took place there from 1686 until it was banned in 1764. Mayfair is now a fashionable commercial, shopping and residential area. Some of the most famous hotel names in London can be found in Mayfair such as The Grosvenor House Hotel, Claridge's, and The Dorchester. Mayfair is also famous as the most expensive property in the popular board game Monopoly. Marylebone is less well heeled than Mayfair but contains some famous attractions such as Madame Tussaud's, The Planetarium, Baker Street (Home to Sherlock Holmes), and Regent's Park. Mayfair and Marylebone is home to many luxury 5 and 4 star hotel properties such as the Sofitel St James, Landmark Hotel, Radisson Edwardian Sussex Hotel, MiNC Mayfair Court Serviced Apartment, Athenaeum Hotel, and Park Lane Mews Hotel.
