New York Newark Liberty Airport (IATA: EWR, ICAO: KEWR, FAA LID: EWR) is located in Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey, United States, about (15 miles, 24 km) southwest of Midtown Manhattan. The name Liberty was added to the full title in memory of United Airlines Flight 93 (Newark to San Francisco) September 11, 2001 which crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, when passengers attempted to take over the plane from a team of hijackers. The Liberty name refers to the Statue of Liberty, just 7 miles (11 km) east of the airport. The principal transfer modes are Train and Bus. A monorail system, the AirTrain Newark, connects the terminals with the Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Link Station for connection to both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit service. For air travelers with an early departure time or who are on looking for accommodation in New Jersey there are airport hotels nearby including Marriott Newark Airport Hotel, Days Inn Newark Airport Hotel, and Sheraton Newark Airport Hotel.
