The Opera District is centred on the Opéra Garnier or Paris Opéra. The district is part of the 9th Arrondissement, which is characterised with Haussmann architecture and street planining. The distict is also home to two of the largest shopping centres in central Paris (the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps). The nearby Avenue de l'Opéra has adjoining streets with numerous Japanese restaurants and luxury brand stores. Opera is also an important banking and financial centre with Crédit Lyonnais, BNP and American Express offices nearby.
