Piran. Pop. 4,576. Currency Euro. Language Slovenian. Time Zone GMT + 1 hour. Nearest airport – Trieste (Italy). Best Time to go – spring and summer. Piran is a beautiful town perched on the Adriatic Coast of Slovenia. It has all the design and feel of an Italian town, which is not surprising, as Piran belonged to the Venetian Empire from the late 13th century to the end of the 18th century. The town is full of medieval architecture, narrow streets, and a beautiful square called the Tartinjev trg, named after the famous composer Giuseppe Tartini who was born in Piran. Other attractions in Piran include: The Venetian House; Church of St. George; and the Maritime Museum. For the more active try the following activities: wander through the narrow streets; swim from the many piers; climb to the top of the city walls; and walk the coastal path from the Church of St. George to Fiesa. However, arguably the best activity in Piran is watching the sun setting over the Adriatic Sea, preferably with a glass of wine.

Piran - wikipedia

Piran (Italian Pirano) is a town and municipality in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic coast along the Gulf of Piran. Piran is an old Mediterranean style town situated at the tip of the Piran peninsula along the Gulf of Piran. The town resembles a large open-air museum, with medieval architecture and a rich cultural heritage. Narrow streets and compact houses give the town its special charm.

Piran - wikitravel

Piran is probably the most beautiful of Slovenia's coastal towns, perched on a tiny piece of land jutting into the sea. It feels more like an Italian coastal town, without all the Italian tourists, and for good reason: Piran was part of the Venetian empire from the late 13th century to the end of the 18th century.
