The Pyrenees is a mountain range, which forms the border between France and Spain with the tiny country of Andorra wedged in between the two larger countries. The Pyrenees stretches 430 km (267 mi) from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea (Cap de Creus). The highest mountain in the Pyrenees, and Spain's third highest mountain, is Aneto - reaching a height of 3,404 metres (11,168 ft). Both the French and Spanish sides of the Pyrenees are popular spots for winter sports such as alpine skiing and mountaineering. In the summer and autumn seasons, the Pyrenees are usually featured in two of cycling's epic grand tours, the Tour de France held annually in July and the Vuelta a Espaņa held in September. Some of the main territories covered by the Pyrenees include: Pyrenees Atlantiques; Hautes Pyrenees; Haute Garonne; Ariege; Pyrenees Orientales; Aragon; Andorra; Catalonia; and Aude. The main languages spoken in the area are Spanish, French, Catalan (in Catalonia and Andorra), and Basque.
