When checking in, pick up the hotel's business card. In the most confusing of cities, the cards often come with a little map to get you home if you get lost.

Quito and it’s surrounding areas were freed from Spanish influence after the Battle of Pichincha in 1822 which was won by forces under the command of Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre. The modern city is divided into 3 areas: The Colonial Old City; The Southern Area (home to both industrial and residential districts); and The Northern Area (With high-rise buildings, shopping centers, the financial district and upper class residential areas).
