Rotterdam is the second largest municipality in the Netherlands and the largest city in the province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland), the country's most populous province. The city has the largest port in Europe and was until 2004 the world's busiest port (passed by Singapore and Shanghai). It is situated on the banks of the river Nieuwe Maas ("New Meuse"), one of the streams in the delta formed by the rivers Rhine and Meuse. The name "Rotterdam" comes from the city's origin at a dam in the Rotte river. Despite its industrial activity Rotterdam has much for the visitor to see including the Luxor Theatre, Het Schielandhuis (historical museum of Rotterdam), NAI (Dutch Institute for Architecture), Maritiem Museum, The Euromast. For football fans Rotterdam is home to Feyenoord, who play at the "Stadion Feijenoord" which is better known as De Kuip ("the Tub"). Rotterdam Airport is The Netherlands' largest regional airport. From the airport, there are daily services to London, Hamburg, and Berlin and charter flights. The airport handled over a million passengers in 2004.
