Salta, “La Linda” (The beautiful) in the northwest of Argentina's Lerma Valley is the capital of the Salta Province and is Argentina's 8th largest city. Home to several museums including Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña in which lies the bodies of 3 Inca children found frozen at the summitt of Mount Llullaillaco, Salta is also the starting point for the “Tren a las nubes” - The train to the clouds, a breath-taking journey across the Andes at 4,220 meters above sea level. In the town itself is the Plaza 9 de Julio city park, the Cathedral and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Balcarce Street is the main area for nightlife with several bars and restaurants and live entertainment. Stunning views of the city can be seen by taking the cable car (or walking) to the summitt of San Bernardo Hill. Each April for the duration of the month sees a cultural festival with a range of activities from cultural displays to orchestra perfomances. There are plenty of tours on offer to take in the surrounding beauty of Salta 'La Linda' such as to San Lorenzo, Cafayate, Cachi and San Antonio de Los Cobres.
