Spas. The word spa is derived from the Belgian town of Spa which was famous for health giving mineral waters and hot thermal springs. In modern times Spas have evolved into destination and resort Spas which offer a range of health treatments including sulphur hot springs, sauna, thermae, mineral, balneotherapy and hydrotherapy. There are Spa towns in various world locations incuding, Strathpeffer, Peebles, Bath, Malvern, Royal Leamington Spa, Builth Wells, Aix-les-Bains, Baden-Baden, Saratoga Springs, Harbin Hot Springs, Boston Spa, Hanmer Springs and Baden in Switzerland. Often the name of the town will contain the word bath or spring in it’s title. For travellers to Europe look out for the term Hydro (used for some spa hotels in Scotland and England) Bad (german for bath) and Bain (french for bath).
