St Kitts and Nevis are located in the Leeward Islands and were amongst the first islands in the Caribbean to be settled by Europeans. The islands are volcanic in origin, with large central peaks covered in tropical rainforests; the steeper slopes leading to these peaks are mainly uninhabited. The highest peak is Mount Liamuiga at 3,792 feet (1,156 m). St Kitts and Nevis is an independent Commonwealth Realm with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state, represented in St. Kitts and Nevis by a Governor-General, who acts on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet. The economy has diversified into agricultural, tourism, export-oriented manufacturing, and offshore-banking sectors. The growth of the tourism sector has become the main foreign exchange earner for Saint Kitts and Nevis. Arguably, St Kitts and Nevis most famous citizen is Kim Collins who won as 100 metres world champion in 2003. Staying on a sporting theme – the islands were one of the host venues of the 2007 Cricket World Cup.
