Stirling Albion FC were formed in 1945 from the ashes ‘literally’ of Kings Park football club, after their ground was hit by a German Luftwaffe bomb in July 1940. Local coal merchant Thomas Fergusson was the driving force behind the new club and a new ground at Annfield, which was to be home to Stirling Albion until 1992. The club has enjoyed mixed fortunes over the years with high spots including: remaining unbeaten, away from home, for a Calendar year, with the league title secured at Links Park on 7 April 1991; the 1995–96 season, when the club went on a run of success and had the league sewn up by Christmas; and beating Airdrie on 12 May 2007, and gaining promotion to Scottish Division One. The low spots include: 1981 when the team failed to score a league goal for 8 months; selling the prime asset, Annfield, to the local council; and losing the 2nd division league title on the last game of the season at home to Dumbarton. The club have notched some notable firsts including: The first British Team to play in Japan, 1966; The highest scorers in the 20th Century, 20 -0 v Selkirk, 8 December 1984; and The first Scottish Club to have an artificial pitch. In May 2009 the SAFC Supporters Trust launched an ambitious campaign to buy the club. The club has been on sale for a number of years with no positive interest. The Stirling Albion Supporters’ Trust was established in 2002 to forge links between the club, the Stirling community and fans of the team. In 2010 the Trust became owners of Stirling Albion FC.
