Sweden lies west of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia, providing a long coastline, and forms the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. To the west is the Scandinavian mountain chain (Skanderna), a range that separates Sweden from Norway. The country is divived into three main regions: Norrland (the sparsely populated, northern part of the country); Svealand (the central part of the country, includes Stockholm and Uppsala); and Götaland (ten provinces in the southern part of the country). The major cites include: Stockholm (capital); Gothenburg (2nd city); Malmö (3rd city); Uppsala (University city); Helsingborg (near Denmark); Karlskrona (former naval centre); and Kiruna (mining town in Lappland). Sweden is largely an export-oriented market economy featuring an efficient modern distribution system, excellent internal and external communications, and a skilled technical labour force. Timber, hydropower, copper, and iron ore make up the resource base of an economy heavily oriented toward foreign trade. Sweden has some interesting food and drink waiting for the hungry visitor, including: Meatballs (the most famous dish); Hash (consisting of meat, onions and potatoes); Pickled herring; Gravlax (thin slices of salmon cured in salt, sugar and dill); and Kroppkakor (Potato dumpling). All this can then be washed down with a shot of Absolut Vodka or a dark Carnegie Porter beer.
