Sydney Airport (also known as Kingsford Smith Airport) (IATA: SYD, ICAO: YSSY) is located in the Sydney suburb of Mascot about 9km (6 miles) south of Sydney, and is the main airport serving Sydney. The airport is named after Sir Charles Edward Kingsford Smith MC, AFC (9 February 1897 8 November 1935), who was a famous Australian aviator and made the first trans-Pacific flight from the United States to Australia. Sydney Airport has three passenger terminals. The international terminal 1 is separated from the other terminals by a runway, therefore passengers need to allow for longer transfer times. There are shuttle services between terminals. Passengers transferring to Sydney city can use road transport or the Airport Link underground rail line. The International Terminal and Domestic Terminal railway stations are situated beneath the respective terminals, and are part of the wider Cityrail network.
