Tbilisi International Airport Guide Hotels and Transfers

Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport (IATA: TBS, ICAO: UGTB) is situated located 17 km (11 miles) southeast of the Georgian capital city Tbilisi. The airport is named after Shota Rustaveli the famous 12 Century poet and regarded as one of the greatest contributors to Georgian literature. A new international terminal, car-park, and runway improvements were completed in 2007. Transfers are mainly by road along George W. Bush Avenue towards the city centre. There is also a rail link with s small terminal station. Currently there are no terminal hotels and the nearest quality accommodation is over 6km away. If travellers are on a early flight from Tbilisi a good choice would be to go for a hotel on George Bush Avenue which leads directly to the airport and avoids a lot of the downtown city centre traffic. Our review of the airport was very positive – the terminal is a nice size with restaurant, duty free, toilets etc. within an easy stroll to gates. The Georgian wine store has arguably one of the finest stocks of red wine in any airport departure area we have experienced – another good reason to return to Tbilisi. A good way of flying to Tblisi is with award winning Turkish Airlines with regular flights to and from Istanbul.

The jet parked at Tbilisi  airport is part of the Russian PJSC Siberia Airlines fleet, which operates as S7 Airlines. The airline is based in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia and as of 2008 is Russia's largest domestic airline. S7 has operated scheduled passenger flights to destinations in Russia, as well as international services to Austria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, PR China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea (South), Spain, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and the United Arab Emirates.
