Turin is the capital of the Piedmont (Italian: Piemonte) region and is a major business and cultural centre in the north west of Italy. The city is home to some iconic artifacts and brands including: The Shroud of Turin; Car manufacturers Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo; and football teams Juventus F.C. and Torino F.C. The city also hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics. The city is also the home of some famous educational institutes such as The University of Turin, Polytechnic University of Turin, and ESCP-EAP European School of Management. Allied to it’s strength in engineering and technology the city is also a major industrial and business centre. Along with FIAT many other famous branded companies were founded in the city including: Lancia, Pininfarina, Bertone, Sparco, Italdesign, Ghia, Fioravanti, Stola, Intesa Sanpaolo, Superga, Invicta (1821), Lavazza, Martini & Rossi, and Kappa. The most famous feature, and the symbol of the city of turin is the Mole Antonelliana. This 167.5-meter tower is the highest work of masonry in Europe and it now contains one of the finest cinema museums in Europe. A magnet for visitors is The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, Duomo di San Giovanni. The Cathedral's Chapel of the Shroud houses the famous Shroud of Turin, which is stored in a vault below the Duomo. However, the Shroud is only displayed by Papal Decree with it’s next scheduled showing in 2025! Don’t worry, Turin has many other attractions for culture vultures including: Quadrilatero Romano; Via Garibaldi; Valentino Park; Cathedral of Superga; and Castello di Rivoli.
