These territories are separated by the Turkish Straits (Bosphorus, Sea of Marmara, and Dardanelles) which are spanned by 2 bridges at Istanbul. The country is covered by 7 regions: Aegean Turkey; Black Sea Turkey; Central Anatolia; Eastern Anatolia; Marmara Region; Mediterranean Turkey; and Southeastern Anatolia. Main cities include: Ankara (capital of Turkey and second largest city); Antalya (fastest growing city and tourist hub); Bursa (national park and a winter sports resort); Edirne (second capital of the Ottoman Empire); Istanbul (largest city, the former capital of both the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires); Izmir (third largest city); Konya (Central Anatolian city); Sinop (ancient fortress and port city); and Trabzon (gateway to northeast Turkey). Apart from the main cities the country has many other attractions for visitors including: Troy (ancient city); Cappadocia (famous for moon like landscape); Gallipoli (site of 1915 Anzac landing); Ephesus (ancient city); and Olympos (site of ancient Lycian ruins). Turkey has experienced rapid growth over the last twenty years in the tourism sector. In 2008, there were 30,929,192 visitors to the country, who contributed over $21.9 billion to Turkey's revenues.
