The U.S. Virgin Islands are made up of the main islands of Saint Croix, Saint John and Saint Thomas, along with the much smaller but historically important Water Island, and numerous smaller islands. The Virgins are located in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, about 90 miles (140 km) east of Puerto Rico and are famous for distinctive white sandy beaches and volcanic topography. The economy of the islands is centered on Tourism which includes a growing cruise ship market. The islands also have a small but diverse manufacturing sector consisting of petroleum refining, textiles, electronics, rum distilling, pharmaceuticals, and watch assembly. Financial services are also starting to develop in the Islands. Places to visit include: Buck Island Reef National Monument; Christiansted National Historic Site; Salt River Bay National Historic Park and Ecological Preserve; Virgin Islands National Park; and Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument. One unusual feature of the United States Virgin Islands is driving on the left hand side of the road (similar to the UK). This is made more complex as most cars are left hand drive as they are imported from the US.
