New Zealand, the current
America's Cup Yacht holders have the honour of choosing which type of boat
the teams will compete in the next competition in 2021. Their planned
vessel will consist of a full foiling monohull which will replace the
previous 50 ft catamarans.

The Chinese yacht Dongfeng, skippered by Charles Caudrelier
(France), took an early lead on the opening day of the Volvo Ocean
Race as the seven crews started the first leg from Alicante to Lisbon.

"More than 125 young people recovering from cancer have completed a round-Britain sailing challenge run by yachtswoman
Dame Ellen MacArthur. The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust project began in May and saw young people aged 10 to 30 visit 58 towns and cities in the UK, over 17 relay legs."

Cowes Week 2017 runs from Saturday 29th
July to Saturday 5th August and features 1,000 boats crewed by 8,000
participants competing in 40 races per day. It is one of the biggest
sailing regattas in the world and is also one of the longest running.

Emirates Team New Zealand defeated defending champions
Oracle Team USA to lift the 35th America's Cup with a 7-1 series win. New
Zealand's Peter Burling at 26 became the youngest helmsman to win the
biggest prize in sailing. The America's cup, which was originally awarded
in 1851, is the oldest competition in international sport.

British Sailing have
appointed Mark Robinson as their new Olympic performance manager.
Robinson held similar a position in Australia and is charged with leading
the challenge for medals at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Ken Fowler hopes to raise £50k for charity by sailing his 4m (13ft) RS Aero dinghy from
Land’s End to John O’Groats – over 900 miles – in under 20
days...He aims to set off from Land’s End on 7 May 2017, sail for 10 hours every day and arrive in John O’Groats by 1 June.'

has enjoyed another successful time with over 100 yachts being purchased.

The 2016 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS)
promises to be one of the largest ever with over 120 superyachts on
display with a cumulative value in the billions of dollars. Some
highlights for the 2016 event include the Aston Martin AM37 powerboat,
and the 70 meter superyacht ‘Galactica Supernova’
superyacht, with its own helipad, beach club, and infinity pool.

football midfielder, has generously donated his yacht to Proactivia Open Arms
a non-governmental organisation, dedicated to saving lives at sea,
particularly refugees. The yacht will
not be involved in any operational duties but will be auctioned off, with
the proceeds being used to assist POA's life saving actions in

Heysea shipyard in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province,
China is displaying its newest superyacht - the 47m Heysea 152.
The yacht is powered by two CAT C32 engines with a max speed of 15 knots.
The vessel has capacity for 10 passengers and 9 crew members. With a
price of $18.7 million the first yacht will be delivered in 2018.

Luxury Cruise Company Crystal Cruises have introduced a new addition to
their fleet - the 62 passenger luxury yacht - Crystal Esprit - quite a
contrast to Crystal's typical 1,000 passenger cruise ships. The new yacht,
with it's shallow draft will be able to visit secluded coves and harbours,
locations not accessible by the larger vessels. Among the water toys on
the Esprit is a 2-person submarine, built by Dutch company U-Boat Worx.
The world's first floating wind-farm could be installed 15 miles (25km)
off the Scottish coast at Peterhead. Statoil (Norway) have received
planning permission from the Scottish Government to develop the Hywind
Scotland pilot project, which is projected to generate 135 GWh
(gigawatt-hours). From a boat and yacht perspective The Royal Yachting Association
RYA have requested that Statoil make public the plans for - operational safety zones.

A £27m development at the Vela
Marina, Barcelona, will include an innovative robotic boat
hoist. The lift will have the capability to lift craft up to 30 feet in
length into a covered dry dock with capacity for 222 boats. The facility
will be the first of its kind in Europe but not worldwide as there is an
equivalent hoist in Miami, Florida, USA.

has indicated positive results with increasing - investment, employment,
and profits within the UK boating industry. The result were made public on
18th September, at the Southampton Boat Show.

After over 50 years U.S. yacht charter businesses are starting to return
to Cuba. On a late evening in early
August 2015 the first yacht to legally carry paying American travellers to
Cuba docked in Havana’s Marina Hemingway. The 78 foot yacht Still
Water made the 4 hour trip from Key West, Florida Keys, USA
carrying 12 passengers and 3 crew. As the US - Cuba relationship improves
it is hoped that other opportunities for Cuba yacht and boat cruising from
the USA will develop.

of Gibraltar is looking to attract larger luxury yachts with
the addition of 10 new superyacht berths as part of an ambitious expansion
plan. Superyachts visit the marina regularly but typically only for short
stops or refuelling - the 10 new stern-to berths will encourage longer
stays for bigger boats.

Great charity fundraiser Wayne Ingram spent 7 days and nights = 168
hours in a life-raft in Portland Harbour, Dorset, on the south coast of
England, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital
GOSH. The hospital is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals with the broadest range of dedicated, children’s healthcare specialists under one roof in the UK.
Wayne's ordeal not only raised thousands of pounds for GOSH but provided
important medical data for Portsmouth University for their sea survival

A superyacht, built in 1922, has been found in a California trailer park. Caritas
is 47 m (156ft) long and was designed by Cox & Stevens naval architects, New York
and built in Kiel Germany by Krupp Germaniawerft. During WW2 Caritas was requisitioned by the US Navy and commissioned as the USS Garnet.
She was decommissioned in 1945 and was
converted into a gift shop and visitor attraction at Californian trailer park Ship Ashore.
It is hoped the discovery will generate interest in restoring Caritas -
one of a small handful of pre-war superyachts still in existence.
The power boat that beat the transatlantic crossing record in 1986 -
Virgin Atlantic Challenger II - is
up for sale. Flamboyant entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson was the original
owner and crossed the Atlantic from New York to London in 80 hours 31
minutes - beating the previous record by two hours. The boat ended up in a
Mallorca marina until found by current owner Dan Stevens, a ferry company
boss from Plymouth. He has restored the 72ft, 53 Knot mono hulled boat
including a significant improvement in the engine room and is looking for
a buyer, although he is keen that the boat kept in the UK. The asking
price is £725,000 about half of the original cost paid by Sir Richard Branson.
Virgin Atlantic Challenger II heads home
The Venture Cup, an offshore powerboat race run every two years, will be
delayed until 2016 but has received substantial financial support from an
Irish business. The race will be held exclusively around the coasts of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
The Venture Cup is often billed as the World's longest, toughest and most prestigious powerboat
race - the seas around Ireland will present a tough challenge for boats

Organisers of the 2015 London Boat Show were pleased to see a 4% increase
in visitor numbers compared to the 2014 event. The event attracted 92,288
compared to 88,593 in 2014 and is a welcome reversal of decreasing
attendances over a 4 year period. The return of the press preview day
proved popular coupled with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger who
drew a large crowd when she sang from the Sunseeker International
stand. Visitors were also drawn to the launch of the new Sunseeker
Predator 57 - a 60.20ft (18.35m) yacht with a speed of up to 32 knots and
capacity for 6 guests. The show organisers are looking towards a
successful 2016 event - with an aim of attracting 100,000 visitors. The
2016 boat show will take place at the ExCeL Centre from 8th Jan to
17th Jan 2016.
