Best Time to go – good all year round but temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius in summer. Yerevan is the capital and largest city in Armenia, with over 40% of the entire country’s population. Yerevan is regarded as one of the best examples of early Soviet architecture and is sometimes referred to as the Pink City due to the colour of building stone. However, the city is reckoned to be over 2800 years old with the establishment of the Erebuni Fortress around that period. The city has plenty of other attractions for visitors including: Victory Park/Monument; Katoghike Church; The Apartment Museum of Sergei Parajanov; Matenadaran Museum; The National Art Gallery; Republic Square; Ararat Cognac Factory; The Opera House and Swan Lake; and St. Gregory the Enlightener's Cathedral. The other rather surprising attraction is WaterWorld, great for families and children. Visitors should also find time to sample the Yerevan cognac.

The airport was renovated in the 1980s with the development of a new terminal area, in order to meet domestic traffic demands within the Soviet Union.
