Zurich Kloten Airport (IATA: ZRH, ICAO: LSZH) is situated six miles (10 km) north of Zurich and lies in the municipalities of Kloten, Rümlang, and Oberglatt. The airport is the largest in Switzerland and the principal hub for Swiss International Air Lines. The airport lost a considerable amount of traffic after the demise of former national carrier Swissair in March 2002. The successor to Swissair, namely Swiss International Air Lines, was taken over by Lufthansa and since then airport traffic has risen to over 22 million passengers in 2008. Ground transportation is facilitated by Zürich Airport railway station (German: Bahnhof SBB Flughafen Zürich) which is situated directly below the main terminal. This station not only allows easy transfer to Zurich city, but to other locations in Switzerland, including Winterthur, Berne, Basel, Brig, St. Gallen, and Lucerne.
